why aren't you smiling

Taeyeon had a normal childhood when you consider normal different from uneventful. Her parents constantly fought about working hours and the occasional cheating that would be so apparent on her dad's shirt. As much as there was an effort to protect her from their private matters, the walls were thin. 

 

On top of that, not every parent knows how to deal with an independent child. Taeyeon would disappear for days on end, calling only after the 50th text telling her to go home. Working a part-time job (with plenty of extra hours) at a cafe, Taeyeon took her hard earned money to take a tiny trip to Europe as soon as she graduated. Not knowing how to comunicate was no obstacle, she'd study on the buses, metros, planes. A backpack trip was what she needed to find out what is out there, experience the sweet taste of freedom... And to do a whole lot of dumb things too.

 

Taeyeon found herself sleeping in the same bed for two years with a man she found in a bar in the heart of Spain. Finally, she understood her mom. She was the one trying to get their lives in place. One day, he'd wake up to an empty apartment. She had returned home after receiving the acceptance letter she had been waiting for in secret. 

 

She works at a translation agency now on top of her assistance at the Global Services Center. Her choice of Linguistics as a major came from the simple realization that the more languages you can speak, the more opportunities you can unlock. 

 

She wants to find them all.
